Jen has written a wonderful article about fireflies, their importance, and symbology in various cultures. These wonderful small flies have mythical legends extending all the way from North America to Japan. It is also interesting to note the similarities between the superstitions followed across various cultures.
In India, the firefly is called kita-mani, which means a diamond among various insects. The Indian religious texts describe the spark from the firefly as a sign of an impending fire or some big event that might happen in the near future.
Thanks, Jen for this wonderful article. The link is below.

A very delayed thank you, Ravi! (I'm not terribly forum-savvy, as you can see.) I wish I had time to write more about folklore, my passion. Your articles are always a treat to read. Have a fantastic day!
This is a very interesting read. In my Okrika (Wakirike) folklore, the firefly, connected the divine and the mundane. Thanks Jen. Thanks Ravi.
Thank you, Miebakagh! They are magical creatures, aren't they? World folklore is fascinating to me—thanks for sharing a bit of yours!
Ravi—as a follow-up to your latest Exemplore article, here's a Wyoming petroglyph. It's about 2 or 3 feet tall. Space man? Insect? Turtle? Definitely inspires the imagination!
Interesting Jen. Another mysterious fact is that these petroglyphs differ in different parts of the world. For example, the supposed aliens in India have large heads and antenna-like structures. In Mexico, some of these petroglyphs show very long people.
So, did different groups of aliens visit other places? Were they from multiple alien worlds? What did they do on Earth? All interesting questions but no answers.

What are we going to do with all of the old books, sitting unread, on shelves around the world. In this digital age, with the decline of print, there are millions and millions of books sitting on shelves in homes, libraries and other places that seem destined for the scrap heap. I wrote a Hub about...

I was assigned to teach elementary music to three self-contained classes of autistic children. I'm new at this and it seems like they've gone through three music teachers in the last three years because none of them have had the patience to work with them. There are about 5 children per class and...
