What would you say is the best way to study a new second language?

I have been an ESL teacher in Korea for 2 years and know Cantonese, English and Korean. I really enjoy just 'shadowing' while listening. (listening and trying to copy what is being said by speaking it straight away.)

There are tons of other methods and everyone differs. So how do you like to study/ learn a language?

I do feel adults can learn languages faster than children can. We in fact learn differently.

I also feel you do not necessarily need immersion. If you look at all the Asian people that have learnt English without ever leaving their country, they do well on this. Immersion helps, but it is also not a massive factor.
