For the most part, middle school years are highly inadequate. Most kids are bored out of their mind. Some of this has to do with the curriculum and some has to do with the teachers.
It seems like we're still in the stone ages when it comes to the curriculum, my kids are still reading the same books I did as a kid. It was boring then and it's even more irrelevant and boring now.
The teachers are hit and miss, some of them are fantastic and have a genuine interest in making their class as interesting as possible, despite the curriculum. Unfortunately there are many who are like drones, who put out the least possible effort and their classrooms resemble a sleep clinic.
We can only hope the politicians and school board trustees eventually see the light. Perhaps when the kids of today take over the reigns. They really need to make the subject matter more relevant to what's happening today with more practical application of what they are teaching to what the students need to thrive (not survive) in the world they will inherit.
