Horror Film Reviews: The Crazies
The Crazies Horror Film Review
The Crazies is a remake of A George A Romero film that surfaced without as much of a whimper back in the 70's and it was a decent little update to make a film that honored the original.
The story centres around a small town that has been exposed to a man made virus that makes people become violent and psychotic and first this happens in small ways with the odd person getting infected, then nearly the whole town gets all crazy, except a select few(How cliche!) who seem immune to the virus, but not the violent crazies. I'd say this was a decent movie that had all the ideas of the original and tried to expand it's scope and had a definitive conclusion to the story as the original movie did not as the virus carried on in that movie and the story was more involved with a vaccine for the virus.
.In the remake we see some people killed by a few crazies but I feel you don't get a sense of the full impact, maybe it was just me, but I didn't feel the full threat of the crazies with the people who didn't get infected, it just seemed like oh yeah well everyone's gone crazy, but we must escape and potentially spread or carry this virus to another town.
The crazies seemed crazy, but not as crazy as you should expect, they almost look catatonic in their violent actions, If I was classed as crazy I'd be screaming my head off as I chopped peoples heads off, wild eyed and just mad, but not these crazies, so that did disappoint slightly. But it did pass as an ok movie, but not as good as the original trailer for the movie had me believe.
The Crazies was a worthy effort into looking at what could happen, but I feel the original movie was far better in making you think what would the military do in a similar situation in real life, would everything fall to pieces or would it be some real serious fail proof action plan, How would people react in this situation?
Good movie, but the original was far better at getting the message across with a smaller budget too..
