Music Therapy Fun Facts | Affects Respiratory System

Updated on March 29, 2012

When I was a small child I used to listen my father’s music. He was not a popular singer. But he could sing nicely and sang in many stage programmes. He had a very good talent in performing drama also…..

My father used to keep the lyrics of the songs in his diary.

He taught me how to sing a song. I started my singing in my

childhood . But unfortunately I couldn’t continue my singing.

Still I love music too much. When I was in India me and my

family went to a medical shop for purchasing some medicine.

One of the persons of the shop asked about our family.

When he heard the name of my father suddenly he told he

knows my father very well. He told that he was a librarian in Govt. dept.

as well as a good singer with ideal qualities. After hearing I stormed and wept.

Actually that time only I realized  that he was a good singer. Since I was

a small child I never saw his stage shows. I saw some photos

only. My father passed away  very long back. But I heard these words

very recently and still it remains in my mind as a weeping.

People do not forget good talented persons even after their lives.

Especially musicians or singers had an ever lasting place in others mind.

The word music comes from the Greek word “mousike” which

means art of the Muses.Muses were the Goddesses of Music,

poetry, art and dance. It is a form of art. It can defined as an

organized sound. It expresses our feelings as well as

emotions in a melodious way. It has a soothing effect

on disturbed soul. Music increases the metabolic

activites within the human body. It influences the

respiration , secretions, muscular activities and thus

affecting nervous system and circulatory system of

the listener and the performer.

Now a days music has s significant role in modern science. Now Music

therapy is in experimental and in implementation stage. It has a high

healing effect on humanbeings. They stimulate the brain, ease tension

and remove fatigue. The effect of music therapy may be immediate or

slow. It depends on individual needs and taste. Music therapy has to

be used with great care and should beaccording to the nature of

illness. Now people are using very convenient devices like mobile,

mp3 player etc. for hearing songs.

There are countless Ragas with many peculiarities. We can not

establish a particular raga for a particular disease. Different types

of ragas applied for different illness. Physiological, psychological, intellectual and

spiritual effect of music confirm the supremacy of Indian music and we should

encourage “mousike”and it will reveal its exact role in modern science.

We should encourage music or not ?

I belong to a family who love to sing, although no one became a musician nor a singer for the public. We enjoy our family reunions made more relevant by our singing.

I sing in our church choir, and yes, music is really relaxing as it is entertaining. Music helps in my healing process as a diabetic. Thank you for sharing this.
