The Secret Life Of Bees Movie Review

Updated on December 1, 2010

A Story that tells another Story

Hope you enjoy the secret life of bees movie review. I cant believe I waited this long to watch "The Secret Life Of Bees" movie starring Queen Latifah,Dakota Fanning,Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson. The movie came out in 2008 and here it is 2009,my first time watching it was Saturday September 5,2009. I can admit that certain things kept me from watching it such as the title, I mean you can usually tell what a movie is going to be about based on the title. This just goes to show that you cant judge a book by its cover and you really cant judge a movie by its title.

This movie was very touching, you could feel the emotion in the story, put yourself in the place of the characters, feel exactly how they were feeling inside, I never even read the book but now I am looking into it because it seems I have missed out on so much.

The characters were so real, I could see a person I used to know in the character of the sister May who committed suicide because she felt as though the weight of the world was on her shoulders. The sister that Alicia Keys played showed very little emotion and kept things bottled up inside, maybe because she felt that she had to be there for her sisters to protect them by not letting people take advantage, but all while doing that she was putting her life on hold by turning down the opportunity for love and marriage.

Jenniffer Hudson's character seemed lost, she knew she had a purpose in life but it was as if she was trapped inside herself,in the end she was able to open her eyes to new things that were going on by realizing that she could be more than what she was.

Dakota Fanning character was simply a lost little girl who was basically growing up on her own. She needed a mother and she got four, she saw through racism and allowed herself to open up and trust others. She played a very smart little girl who knew what she had to do along with where she had to be. In the movie when she and Hudson first show up at the sisters home after settling she states that she is exactly where she should be.

Queen Latifah's character reminded me so much of my grandmother, never turning down anyone, always willing to help and become that mother to everyone in need. The character she played was joyful, always putting others before herself with no complaints. I would have loved to have been taking in by this family.

I have learned that at moments when you are feeling down and out there are certain things that can lift your spirit. It can be movies, music even people. This movie has done wonders for me and I can honestly say that it deserves more credit than it got. The secret life of bees was worth the watch and I could watch it over and over again, it'd still feel like my first time watching it. If you haven't seen it,you need to see it right now. Thank you for visiting the secret life of bees movie review i've written.
