Media and news is a dangerous road to walk on. There are 3 options here you need to look at:

    1. The news is for real - BBC, for one, is an old enough news channel. Spread over all media fields, radio and TV, after a point it doesn't really need to make up stories.

    2. The news is crock - BBC, is in fact, a media agency. It feeds upon news, or rather interesting news. More often then that, like any news station, it will make up news, or in some cases add a little more umph to it to make it interesting

    3. The news is once again, for real - BBC, like other news channels, may create certain states in society. It may even make things like accidents, murder, etc.

Fact of the matter is, you can't live in such paranoia. If you're really hating them, stop watching them. On a side note, journalists are those that want the "hot scoop".
