Why isn't the violin considered to be a valid rock instrument? Should it be?
Yes it should be. Althought it is not completely known the violin is use in most songs we heard today. Just the other day I watched a video by Flyleaf where the guitarist was actually using his guitar as a violin, it was awesome to see.
The group "Apocalyptica" did wonders with cellos, playing music by "Metallica" (among many other pieces), so I see no reason why not.
It's the music and the musician that determines the genre. I think a violin can rock just fine. Queen's music was very rock, but it also had a little bit of classical, opera...
Jimmy Page played his guitar sometimes with a violin bow.
If you want to rock a violin, rock it.
I didn't know it wasn't considered a rock instrument. What else would be the purpose of making electric violins? The violin is arguably the most versatile instrument in the world and can be tuned differently to make it more suitable to non-Western styles of music as well. To exclude it from an entire genre demonstrates not only a lack of knowledge about the violin but a lack of knowledge about music in general.

What violin brands (if it matters) are suitable for beginners?I'm planning to take up violin lessons (adult). So, I was thinking, are there any specific brands that a beginner like me should consider? Are there such things like a beginner's violin?
