Which decade put out the best songs?

Personally I like the 80's.  Metallica, Def Leapard, and Van Halen.  Yeah!

I agree with the decade, definitely the 1980's. But I prefferred the New Romantic bands, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran. Along with Ultravox, Queen, Rick Astley, T'Pau and Bananarama.

I think it was the 60s.

The Beatles had Paul McCartney and John Lennon, two of the greatest songwriters in the world.  Then there are other artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, etc.  Don't forget that the 60s were the heyday of Detroit-based Motown and Memphis Soul!

Cream, Jeff Beck, The Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Van Morrison, early Velvet Underground...I could go on and on...

Hard to choose but for good all around listening and music that has stood the test of time, I would say the 50's.

i'd say as far as rock is concerned, the 70's were the best by far.

That is such a tough question, but in my opinion it's the 60's. There was so much raw emotion poured into songs back then!
