Co-enzyme Q10 also known as Co Q 10. Using statins reduces the amount of this naturally occurring enzyme. Supplements will bring the levels back up to normal. A lack of Co Q 10 can cause muscle pain and may damage heart muscle. Therefore it is recommended that those taking statins should also be taking Co-enzyme Q 10. It is available OTC.
