Do you see more of "sex sells" in today's commercial advertising as compared to "humor sells"?
My psych professor made a comment that sex still sells in advertising more than ever. I disagreed. I see more humorous tactics than anything else. Is it me or is this a case of "your perspective is your reality"?
I teach high school psychology. My students love analyzing commercial content for their influencing factors. Of course, sex has a place. It certainly attracts attention, but I think ads and commercials that use humor are talked about more, and, therefore, more effective in placing the product into long-term memory.
Thank you, Jerry, for your contribution to this post. I've been in the psych field, as an RN, for some time now and care for a variety of patients who unfortunately suffer from all kinds of mental health disease processes. It is an adult, lock-down, crisis intervention unit that offers us a different learning experience everyday..
All this excitement because of one special psych professor, years ago, who shared his passion on the power of the mind and human behavior. I'm very grateful!
