I'm sort of over reality TV; but I did like Apprentice, American Idol for a long time, and The Amazing Race.

I'm not a big fan of reality TV. It's either the canned backstory of someone struggling who finally gets their big break, someone looking for love in all the wrong places, a dysfunctional family, or a group of angry women/housewives trying to one-up each other for attention.
If I absolutely had to choose one to watch it would be "Shark Tank". I love the idea of a "mom & pop" business or budding entrepreneurs getting some financial backing to launch their dreams. It also gives you a window of insight into how millionaires and billionaires think.
Another sentimental favorite from the past would be "Secret Millionaire". Millionaires go incognito into impoverished communities and give money to charitable organizations after volunteering for them a few days. After watching all the news in he world it's a nice dose of "counterprogramming" to see some people doing something positive to help others. There are flowers growing among the weeds.

I'm not sure they are exactly reality shows but I like Doomsday Preppers, Naked and Afraid, and Survivor Man type shows. I like them because they can show some useful techniques for camping etc.

My favorite is "Face Off". For people who've never heard of it, it's a competition for special effects makeup artists. I love seeing the unique concepts the people create and watching the process from concept drawing to seeing the character revealed on stage.

I do have a special joy for Who Wants to be a Superhero (cancelled on season 2) and Face/Off. But I think the best reality show I've seen is RuPaul's Drag Race. Who would have thought that a reality show about drag queens could be so funny, heartfelt and shocking, all at the same time. There's something about the theatrics of drag that makes for the perfect fit in reality television.

I'm kinda over reality (never really was that into it to begin with) BUT

My favorite reality show is The Bad Girls Club. This show is ratchet, horrible, and pretty much the same plot (even though each season there are a new set of girls). I like it 1. because its entertaining, 2. because in my mind its like I am living through them without embarrassing myself on a very public forum (aka tv). I often picture myself in their situation and wonder how I would react. It makes me embrace my inner bitch too!
    3. most importantly because I get to silently analyse the psychological impulses and motivations for each of the cast members. Even though its scripted and fake their is a reality of it. Like why they do what they do? Why do others get stressed and mad some get violent, others plot revenge, while others have sex with other cast-mates or other people, etc? Why do some girls follow and other girls want to control things. I often end up confused by their actions and reactions and I don't really get a clear answer but it still watch and continue to watch. In a weird way it makes me understand human nature more.
Other past favorite shows Jersey Shore, Mob Wives, Masterchef, Hell's Kitchen, ABC's What would you do?........

I like Masterchef Junior.  It is amazing to see kids make such amazing dishes.  I also like it because the show can inspire kids.

Personally I like reality shows that focus on playing a game like chess or ones that focus primarily on social games. So Big Brother is my favorite, and I really want the Mole to come back (even though I'm always wrong). Masterchef Junior is pretty good though!
