The early '70's was my hey day so to speak. One song that still speaks to me not only with nostalgia, yet of importance with what is occurring today is Don MeLean's song American Pie. Do you remember it? Did it speak to you in any way? Perhaps there was great kinship with its lyrics or perhaps complete rejection of the sentiment. Who knows? Most are familiar with the stanza . . .

    So bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
    But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, "This'll be the day that I die"
This will be the day that I die

Yes, it spoke somewhat literally regard Viet Nam stuff, yet today I see great metaphorical significance with it with today's current events and social attitudes. Of course, that is me.

For background the full lyrics to the song at following link

And, one article of many about the song by the Guardian

Don McLean on the tragedy behind American Pie: 'I cried for two years'

Edit: Another article if curious about the meaning of the lyrics

As a side note do we still have songs such as American Pie and others of the late 60's through perhaps early 80's still. Or, has Folk Rock fallen to the wayside? Is that genre of music now faded lost to other genres like Rap, Hip-Hop, Southern Country Rock, Latin, K-Pop, and etc. They each kinda' represent music just as much as identity politics represent politics, eh?

    Thoughts . . .
