I'm fan of Aliens and predators concept. I kinda have negative feeling towards this upcoming movie for some odd reasons. As per spoilers there is no alien xeno in the next movie but as this is prequel so yes, there is going to be some history behind those species.

    < spoiler >

As per some of the reddit source, prometheus is about panspermia and alien encounter concept mashed into one movie. There is going to be focus on race of "mysterious space jockey" race which is rumored to be evolved humans race.

So waiting for this movie to release. I don't know if any other good sci-fi releasing this year atleast not in first two quarters.

Like you, I too am nervous about this upcoming "Prometheus" films, as the last few "alien" related films didn't impress me at all; thus I'm hoping this'll be good.

However, "Men in Black III", "Hunger Games", and "John Carter" looks like it might be good.

Is there really no Alien in Prometheus? I'm confused - aren't those face hugger eggs and face huggers in the trailer?

There's also Battleship this year, which has Liam Neeson in it, and he's never been in a bad sci fi film. ;-)

    *John carter - yes
    *Hunger games - yes
*Men in Black - not sure about that they revealed the plot few months back so..
*Hobbit - tongue you know my taste for LOTR
    *Avatar 2? in 2012?

I have a feeling that if not with aliens or some CGI, ridley scott is going to make this a good survival sci-fi movie ending with story of aliens and space jockey concept.

Hobbit - No way on Middle Earth!!!! How that heretic Jackson got the rights to this is one of  the greatest mysteries of all times. Prof Tokien would be spinning in his grave.

How in the heck did "The Hobbit" movie even come into this discussion?  Everyone here is aware that it has nothing to do with science fiction, which is exactly what this thread was about, so I fail to see why we're talking about it to begin with.  Don't get me wrong, everyone here is entitled to their own opinion, but I just thought I point that out, as fantasy and science fiction aren't the same thing.

No need to apologize, as i was just pointing that out.  However, to each their own about "The Hobbit" film, as the only movie I'm worried about getting screwed up is "Amazing Spider-Man" this year. Granted, I could be wrong to worry about it, but so far, there hasn't been any kind of news outside of the Lizard concept art that really excites me about the film.  If anything, it only makes me worry about the quality of said finished product than anything else...

At the risk of getting tangential again (is Spiderman sci-fi?), this one looks worrying. The trailer footage of first person jumps, etc looks like footage from a video game, and not a very good one at that.

Sam Raimi will be spinning in his grave. Oh, wait...

Technically speaking, the superhero genre is a sub genre of science fiction...at least that's what hubpages suggests whenever you open up a thread or hub about it. wink

Back on topic ignoring the 'thieving hobbitses fans' - Just watched the trailer of Prometheus. Thanks for posting it. Me and my friends will be going to see it in the cinema. Ridley Scott is still a very interesting director, and his work is always enjoyable.

On the plot what do people know? Is it posing that the scariest alien concept, be that the aliens are able to use humans more effective than just as kill fodder? As hybrids, space jockeys, etc?

Shoot 'em ups, like Independence day, where everything ends by blasting inside a vulva-shaped female alien womb, is getting a bit tired from where I'm sitting.smile I welcome something a bit more along the lines of Asimov, in the feature film realm. I hope I'm not disappointed.

tongue sorry for thread tangent post guys. I have habit of moving from one point to another when it comes to movies. I often discuss sci-fi stuff in fantasy genre and  fantasy in sci-fi lol.

@Eliza, I agree. I am also tired of shoot ups and wayland-yutani drama. I expect somethng new from this film. Let's hope this movie turns out to be a better survival sci-fi movie.

@ skyfire: Phew I am glad I did not get shot down for my imagery in that post. I woke up last night worried. It seems to be a very clean site, the "hubsters" are a respectable lot.
I did see a film the other night called "The fourth kind" referring to alien abductions. Has anyone seen this? I thought it was real, and we googled the cast etc afterwards to check.

From the trailer, it looks like they have discovered the very same spaceship that crash landed in the first movie. Is the timeline in Prometheus before that encounter or after?

@Eliza, Mila jovovich movie? If yes, then it was okay overall, not much of exciting alien-movie for me.

@plussize-lingerie, Spiderman or most of the video game based movies are cross genres IMO. Some fall in between action or sci-fi or fantasy.
As for aliens in the trailer, those were not eggs but some sort rocks that we usually see near sea-shores or in caves. I'm sure those are rocks near statue and not eggs.If i'm not wrong then concept of movie is likely to start from space jockey civilization and rise of alien species, so these aliens are not totally absent. It's survival sci-fi movie afterall.

@A Troubled Man, yes it's prequel.

On the trailer you posted at the top, those aren't eggs @ 0:29? Possible, I suppose. They are a bit rock like.

      But:
      0:31 - face hugger attacks
      0:35 face hugger in lab

Isn't it? Am I missing something?

Ridley Scott is all "It's not Aliens, but it's related" and it's not being really marketed as Alien, but that could be because of recent AvP films and them wanting a reboot.

But... Those are Aliens, aren't they?

Discussed this at some length yesterday with a friend at dinner, and we couldn't work it out then either.

It looks like infection from aliens, not sure how facehuggers or these particular species kill humans. As per wikipedia, this movie is connected with first alien movie, so you can expect some sort of alien species farming in this movie, IMO.
