Well I don't know your area of Maine enough to suggest any specific suggestions... But some of my favorites as a kid, or working with kids since then have been:
*Building forts in the yard
*Visiting local parks/playgrounds (perhaps have a weekly "park day" and try to visit as many different parks as possible)
*Visiting a local lake/pond
*Cooking on the grill
*Having an outside picnic (so easy, yet kids LOVE it)
*Running in the sprinkler
*Playing with the neighbors
*Going for a walk/hike etc.
Check out the town or city web sites to see if any programs are available for children. The libraries usually have various activities scheduled during the summer. You can also ask about the passes they have either for free or a discounted rate.
