What form of discipline has worked best for you in the past? What’s the most effective way to “punish” discipline a teenager girl or boy?

Take away all their electronic paraphenalia - mobile phone, MP3, XBOX, computer, etc, they would have no idea what to do with their sorry little lives, they will soon be apologetic and of good behaviour.

Take away whatever things they enjoy the most. It might be talking on the phone, playing games on the computer or a gaming stations, being online, etc.

'Punishment' is personal, and a 'get back' at the person. I prefer the word 'consequence'. Since teens have entered into a stage of moral development that is based on personal contract, making use of a 'when-then' approach works best. This means that the teen gets what they want (within reason) when you get what you want from them. For example: if they want to go to a social event, they need to prove that their grades are acceptable, or: when the teen does their chore for the week, they get the special treat that they enjoy.
