Do you ever bend a rule for fun with your children?

I got "wild" tonight and served chocolate chip cookies as our vegetable -- the kids thought it was hilareous.  Do you ever "break the rules" with your kids?

Ofcourse you can so long as they know it is a once-in- a-blue-moon thing. When you are serious they know you are serious. Children can be given a break once in a while.

    They are children only once.

Yes, and most often it was my own rules that I'd bend.  When the kids were little I had a rule that there was no eating in the living room.  They could eat at the table, or even walk around with food or drinks somewhere else - but no living room eating for them (or anyone else, like their father or me).  I might break the rule for an occasional guest, but most of the time I didn't want food in the living.

However, when their father would go on  an overnight trip somewhere, I'd rent a movie; put out a blanket, get something like Chinese food, and the four of us would have a "picnic" in the living room while we watched the movie.  Since my husband resented the no-food-in-the-living-room rule, it had nothing to do with his going somewhere.  It was just our way to "be wild" and have some fun as "just the four of us".  (It did backfire once when I made the mistake of renting "Land Before Time" and all three kids ended up in major tears when Little Foot was separated from his mother; but that's an "answer" for another question and day.)

It depends. My 4 year old son sleeps in his room and we don't allow him to sleep with me and my wife. Its a bad habit. But if its like a loud thunder that keeps making sounds then we would let him sleep with us. But once the storm stops or if he really in a deep sleep I will put him in his room.
