What can you say about the Latch On - Breastfeeding Project in NY City?
In New York City, Mayor Bloomberg encourages breastfeeding practices through the project called "Latch On Initiative New York City" which main objectives are : to encourage breastfeeding practices; monitor baby formula use in hospitals and the stop of promoting materials regarding formula milk. The distribution of formula milk upon discharge is also discourage.
I say Good for NY! At least somewhere seems to be supporting what our bodies were made for instead of promoting formula which actually says on the side of the can "Breastfeeding is best for your baby". There are far too many benefits to breastfeeding for women not to. The most common excuse why women don't breastfeed is that they didn't have enough milk. That is an uninformed excuse that could be avoided with proper knowledge. We need to encourage more information to be available to help mothers. I can't see how anyone could be against encouraging breastfeeding!
