Yes many times. In fact they did me good and certainly did not effect me psychologically. I am an advocate of bringing back canings in schools. I'm fed up with mandy pandying kids which seems to be the flavour of the month nowadays.
Yes, I grew up in an era where it was very common for teachers, coaches, and principals to paddle a student who got out of line.
Obeying and conforming in school was expected at all times.
And if your parents learned you caused trouble in the class they often would spank you again! It was seen as "normal" back then.

Actually I got the ruler or yardstick. Just for holding my pencil th wrong way.
I came close, I beat up a kid who had his parents fill out a "you cannot discipline my child" form. He was spitting on teachers and would tell them that they couldn't do anything cause his mom wouldn't let them.
Technically I got licks for getting in a fight. I actually got free ice cream for a week.
