Does taking a nap during the day keep a 4 year old from going to bed on time at night?
Parents of 4 year olds often ask to allow their child to stay awake during naptime because this is the reason why they cannot get the child to go to bed at night. Is this because the child has had too much sleep already or is it because of how the parent is parenting bedtime?
People of all ages benefit from naps during the day. It's even recommended for adults to keep them functioning properly.
I'm willing to bet the parents are not creating a calm environment and a bedtime routine causing them trouble when it does come to bedtime.
Did you know that naps increase memory. Some studies are showing that children who nap remember what they learned before naptime at a higher rate.
A nap of one to two hours is fine. Longer than that does make it harder for the child to sleep at night.
