      Encouragement  and Direction--without encouragement they will grow up in fear of failure and without direction they will always feel lost.

    I think all of the answers above tie into to being a good example. How many times have we seen a parent tell their children it is wrong to cuss, lie etc. and then they do it right in front of them?

      Parents always the same!

      They need to exemplify what they expect their children to do and not the old chestnut, 'Do as I say and not as I do'. Basically being a good role-model and practising what they preach is what should be expected of all parents.

    Depends how old they are.... I should imagine that teenagers would most appreciate an iPhone, an iMac or an Xbox 360 tongue
