A Moist Gingerbread Cake

Gingerbread is a sweet food-product that is flavored with ginger and typically uses honey or molasses in place of or along with sugar. Gingerbread foods vary, ranging from a soft, moist loaf cake to something close to a ginger biscuit or cookie. The different types likely share a common origin.

This recipe is an old-fashioned gingerbread recipe that is good to make in the winter season. When you bake this gingerbread your house will smell like ginger and cinnamon. The only thing better than the aroma of the gingerbread baking is when it is taken out of the oven and served up to eat with your favorite cup of coffee or tea.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup butter
  • 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 1/2 Cup sifted all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 Cup molasses
  • 1 Cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar; add egg and molasses, mixing well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to wet mixture; add hot water and beat until smooth, Pour into lightly greased and floured 9" square pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.

      Another gingerbread recipe i am gonna bookmark. I have tried baking them but turn out spicy even though i did not add in any spices. WHy?
