Homemade Applesauce (canned)
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds Apples
- water enough to prevent sticking
- sugar optional
Instructions
- Wash and drain apples. Core, peel and quarter apples. Place in stock pot add enough water to prevent sticking and cover. Cook until apples are soft.
- Puree using food processor, food mill or blender. Return back to sauce pan. Add 1/4 cup sugar per pound of apples used or to taste. If desired.
- Bring applesauce to a boil, stir to prevent sticking. Maintain boil while filling jars.
- Remove air bubbles from jars and adjust two piece lids with middle finger and thumb.
- There is a variation to the recipe you can you if you choose. Spiced applesauce can be made by adding cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
