Homemade Applesauce (canned)

  • 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds Apples
  • water enough to prevent sticking
  • sugar optional


  1. Wash and drain apples. Core, peel and quarter apples. Place in stock pot add enough water to prevent sticking and cover. Cook until apples are soft.
  2. Puree using food processor, food mill or blender. Return back to sauce pan. Add 1/4 cup sugar per pound of apples used or to taste. If desired.
  3. Bring applesauce to a boil, stir to prevent sticking. Maintain boil while filling jars.
  4. Remove air bubbles from jars and adjust two piece lids with middle finger and thumb.
  5. There is a variation to the recipe you can you if you choose. Spiced applesauce can be made by adding cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
