Do nuts, like almonds for example, spoil?

Should nuts be thrown out after a certain period? Can they turn rancid?

We buy large bags of almonds, walnuts and pecans and mix them with peanuts and some from a jar of mixed nuts to make a healthier, less salty mix.

The bags typically last several months before we use them up - we do keep them sealed but not refrigerated,  I have never noticed bad taste.

yes.   The oils in nut will cause them to go rancid.  Nuts (tree nuts) would do best in a sealed plastic bag or container in the freezer.

Nuts get rancid quickly because of their high fat content, but you can overcome that by freezing them or storing them in the refrigerator. Flax seeds need to be refrigerated for the same reason. Just chop them up, put them in serving size bags, and pop them in the freezer!
