A good rule of thumb is to buy brown rice in an amount that you can finish in six months. Be sure to use an air-tight container to keep out any moisture. Also, you should keep it in a cool place.
I don't know the shelf life of brown rice but I know how to keep it fresh for as long as I like. Put it in an air tight container and store it in the refridge. I have kept it for at least 6 months that way. The rice stays fresh and does not sweat as a result of being in the refridge.
