How long can you safely consume refrigerated leftovers?
Does the type of dish factor into the length?
That depends on a lot of different factors. Everyone knows that something like chicken or turkey will typically spoil before pork or beef.
How thoroughly something was cooked is another factor.
Personally - I don't eat something a week old - now, sometimes I'll freeze things - that's different.
The best thing to do is keep stuff frozen until you plan to cook it and eat it, and to not make more than you can eat.
I have a one week old rule. Even if it still smells and looks good it goes in the trash at the one week point. The only sidebar to that is fish....3 days is my limit for leftover fish.
I try to freeze things that are especially yummy after 2 days in the fridge so that I'm positive it's still good.
