Fruit. Seeds surrounded by flesh like an apple. I think they are a type of berry, closely related to gooseberries. To me, the important thing is that home grown tomatoes taste great, much better than the one's you find in the grocery stores.
Tomatoes are supposedly classified as fruits since they have seeds. However, we do not actually refer to them as fruit most of the time but as vegetable.
