What are the best tomatoes to use when making tomato pasta sauce?
I've always heard that Roma tomatoes make great tomato sauce recipes. They even had a special on this on the Oprah show.
When using fresh tomatoes, Roma or another meaty tomato is the best choice. If using canned, try San Marzano by Italbrand. They're grown in Italy and have a sweet rather than acid flavor profile, which makes for the best pasta sauce you'll ever taste!
my two preferred tomatoes for pasta sauce are roma's and cherry tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes require a lot more tomatoes though. I grow my own so it's not an issue for me.
