Have you ever baked something…
And then while clearing up found an ingredient that should have gone into the mixture but is still sitting on the worktop. Whoops too late.
No, but I was baking a cake and while I was cleaning up after it went into the oven, discovered that something that was supposed to go in it, was not on the counter. I missed the baking soda. The cake was flat, but still tasted good. Unleavened, if you will.
Oh I've done that too becky. This time it was the eggs. I'd beaten the sugar and butter, then folded the flour in. I couldn't understand why the mixture was thicker than usual.
Now that I have been thinking about it, I made a cake without the sugar once too. That tasted very strange. Chocolate applesauce and no sugar is like eating dark chocolate.
Just for fun I thought I would let you know that "baked" is also fairly modern parlance for getting very stoned. So I giggled when I read your question.
And of course that would lead me to college when I forgot to put something in the brownies. Of course I forgot a lot in those days. Glad they are way behind me. The brownies were all eaten up of course anyway.
Your answer had me laughing, I didn't know that, better watch waht we say with the meaning of so many words changing.
Now the missing ingredient in the brownies has my mind working in overdrive. Lol
I have a fair grasp of modern vernacular, but I've not heard that usage for 'baked.' (I still bake those brownies--they help with my insomnia, without aftereffects!)
i once mistakenly doubled the sugar while making cookies,..... i wound up with chocolate frisbies!
Hi, Rosemary,
When I was a young bride and learning how to cook, I made a lovely tuna fish casserole. While we were eating, I kept saying that I felt that I had forgotten to add something to the casserole. My new husband was saying that it tasted good
to him---that I worried too much. Still, my astute mind knew something was not quite right.
It was only in the clean up phase that I found the tuna in their unopened cans.
I have a really cheap tuna casserole recipe, if anyone is interested. Ha, ha
DJ.
