    You can clean them, and save them to plant next year.

      As a follow up to that, is there a proper way to preserve and store them until planting season?

      Dry them out well. I place mine on a paper towel in a cool, dry place for a couple weeks or more . Once dry, store them in a bag, or just fold up the paper towel. Don't use plastic, for if there is any moisture left, they will rot. Happy planting
