What is your favorite food that you remember your Grandmother or Mother making for you?
When I was a little girl, my Nana was considered the best cook in our county. She made the best home cooked meals around, the best coconut cakes, the best candies. She made pull taffy from a recipe handed down from her father. When I was dating my husband, she invited us over to make that pull taffy with her. It was one of my fondest memories of my Nana. How about you?
I made chocolate hazelnut truffles with my mom and grandma, before grandma moved back to Italy. That flavor combination always makes me think of her.
Chocolate hazelnut truffles!!! What a wonderful recipe to make with family!! Yummm! Thanks for your comment!
I have very few good memories of my mother, but my best by far is making Chili with her. I'm not sure what it may be called in other places, but it's beef, beans, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, and a few "secret" ingredients. I always loved helping her make it and the whole house smelling like it. Now that I have children I have to make it at least a couple times a month or my children complain.
We LOVE chili in our family!! What a great memory, peeples! It is nice that your children will have the same good memories associated with your special chili, that you do! Thanks for commenting!
My grandma used to make the best Mango chutney ever...I've got hold of her recipe and her memories to cherish forever.
Oh, yum! Mango Chutney! That sounds delicious! Do you eat it plain or serve it alongside other dishes? Sounds like a good recipe hub (hint! hint!) if you haven't done one on it yet! Thanks for your comments, Hamshi!
My grandmother was a wonderful cook and I always looked forward to going to her house in the country as a child. My uncle milked the cows and separated the milk himself (I liked to help him) and then my grandmother churned the cream into homemade butter. It was delicious. She also made the best chicken soup.
What awesome and fun memories you have with your grandmother and uncle, Jodah! It is so much fun making homemade butter and the taste of butter churned by your own hand from fresh cream is like nothing else in the world! Thanks for sharing!
I did not know either of my grandmothers; they were dead before I was born.
My mother, however, found a recipe somewhere for a chocolate fudge pudding cake that is decadent 'to die for,' and very easy to make.
I still make it now and then, to this day.
That cake sounds delicious! I have made a lemon pudding cake, I wonder if it is the same concept as the chocolate. Either way, it sounds yummy! Thanks for commenting!
My favorite which my mother made was fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. It is still a favorite in my home as well.
Mmmmmm! Fried chicken, how can you go wrong with that?!! Mashed potatoes and gravy has always been a favorite of mine! Thanks for sharing with us, Blond Logic!!
Thanks to everyone who shared their precious memories and dishes with us! I cannot pick a favorite comment because they all were wonderful and special!
