Right this might sound really stupid but I have just baked a cake, I put pink food colouring in the mix as I wanted the sponge to come out pink, but the sponge has come out as if I didn't put any food colouring in at all, why is this??
To get a pink cake you might want to go with red colouring... And it works better with a white cake..as a spongecake you used egg yolks? so.. When it bakes..it turns brown and with the yolks it will also be different colour. I hope that makes any sense?
Not a stupid question, Could be A) You didn't put enough in or B)You didn't stir it properly so it has gathered in places you may not see from the outside. Or C) wrong kind of food die. Hope this helps.
Go with the red colouring - but don't overdo it. Cochineal is the best.
