Is there a specific type of "Attorney" that is needed to sue a person for "Defemation of Character with Intent to Hurt" in the State of California? And do they actually exist?
Background: false peolice reports, credibility and dependability destroyed, irreversible family disconnection, jail time due to being labeled a "flight risk"
Verified: police reports false, DA & Investigating Officer stated "stories have been less than consistant", Investigating Officer testified Defendent turned self in when told of warrant-Defendent was OR"D that afternoon after 31 days in jail. No priors or criminal history of defedent.
Have been doing some research, but since I have no knowledge...was hoping some one would know...thanks
Let me find someone who can help. Not in california but has extensive knowledge of court systems. Doesn't come in forums much so I will send the link to this thread.
Thanks Faybe...coming up against walls...the referral service has not been much help either...any advise is much appreciated....thank you
Great Rafini, I never knew United Way did that too! I have sent an e-mail. I don't know the work schedule. so keep checking back on the thread, I think this person hubber can help.
yeah, it's something like calling information. (here we use 211 for these types of information referrals) If I know what I'm looking for but don't know who handles it or where to go, I call 211.
Talk to any civil attorney. This is a civil case. Not criminal. If you don't have alot of money then get one that will do the work for a percentage of the over all settlement. This turns them into an attack dog.
thanks Hokey...Is a civil attorney the same as a personal injury attorney? I never had any dealings with the court system...this is all new to me...thanks for any advise...
where I live we have a Lawyer Referral Service and the number can be found through United Way. You should check in your area and see if you can find something similar.
We have been doing research and I was told it would be a Personal Injury Attorney...but all the one's we have inquired to state they do not handle that type of case.
We were also told that since it would be a case that an award would be quiet high since "Intent" can be proved, an Attorney would be needed.
I'm hoping my Hubber friends can expand the thought process and appreciate any words of wisdom.
Hello Caravalhophoto, I like your long name You would need a personal Injury Attorney who's interest is in Slander /Def cases. The problem with many lawyers regarding that area of practice is this. Many States have what is known as "joint property" States, that means if a man or a women slandered you and one of or both of them are married, then lawyers don't want to sue because it's hard and almost impossible to get anything out of them. You cant take property that is in both the husband's and wife's name, even if only one of them slandered you. So many lawyers don't see any real money in it for them. Just alot of risk. However, I have found some lawyers who will in fact take slander cases if your willing to pay about $20,000 dollars up front. Do some more research in your area, you may find some lawyers who are willing to take a pro-bono case on your behalf. It depends on how many tangable assets the defendant has. Not much more help I'm sure.
no, alot of help...thank you susanlang...appreciate it. The "defedent" owns a million dollar house in a very affluiant neighborhood...he is not married. Maybe I should make that clear when I speak to an attorney...thank you.
Best of luck, Cara! Please keep us informed. What a nasty thing to do to someone! Sorry that happened to you.
Contact the Calif or country state bar who can help you find a lawyer.

Why do female attorneys wear long hair?Every female attorney I have met wears her hair long. When I was a juror on a misdemeanor case a few years ago, I noticed that all of the female attorneys had long hair. Now, as I watch the television show, "Suits", I notice that all of the female...

2021 is looking to be an interesting year for me, and day 1 isn't even over yet! So, have any of my fellow hubbers represented themselves in court? What was it like? Did it save you money on an attorney, or should you have lawyered up? Do you have any input and advice? What about those of you who...

Sometimes when I have ideas for hubs, I "start a hub" and sometimes finish it later or just let it sit there for a while. Maybe I should just write down my hub ideas instead. Does it hurt my hub scores or overall hubber score to have those unfinished hubs (often with just titles) sitting...
