When new on hubpages (I am still what I would consider to be a newby) I posted hubs and zealously put large pictures at the top above my text. Due to the "older" and much wiser hubbers and their willingness to assist others I have come to realize that this is less than optimum. So.....my question is....once I have downsized and repositioned a picture on an already published hub do ads then get placed in the space created or does the space just stay blank?
Hey Raisingme,
If you had a picture at the top of your hub, there would be ads above it. When you move the picture out of that position, then your next capsule fills the space, which should be text. Just try not to place the photo next to the first text capsule, this is considered prime real-estate for ad placement.
I have mixed results with pictures being on top, ahead of text. I have been unable to determine if there actually is a difference to the reader. Sure, you can get personal opinion from some hubbers, but it is actually something you need to work out for yourself.
I know some people don't like pictures atop hubs, but that is their personal preference. I doubt there are actually statistics on hubs, with regards to which perform better. If there is, then I am happily proven wrong and will modify some of my own hubs to make the change.
Hope that helped.
Thanks, yet again you have laid my mind to rest and freed me up to put my attention elsewhere. I haven't signed up with adsense or anything else yet for that matter as I am focusing my efforts right now on writing hubs and finding my way about the place. I'm coming out of the cheap seats as far as computer literacy is concerned or the weird and wonderful ways of the internet. Life would be dull indeed if we did not have so many mysteries to unravel! Thank you so much for being a signpost on my way through the forest!
Hey Raisingme, do realize you are hurting yourself more than you know. By not signing up for Adsense, you are losing out on any chance to generate a revenue, and once it is in place and the hub is set, as you want it....Adsense works without any other effort from you.
The longer your hubs mature in GOOGLE search engines and is continually reviewed, the more traffic your hubs will see. Plus, it would be advisable to visit the Extreme Hub Makeover, so you can post a few links and get help(maybe things you haven't thought of), but that's just a suggestion.
I recommend you at least sign up for Adsense, do the basic of getting the account setup and enter your publisher ID in your affiliate section. Once this is done, you can just go about your business with your hubs and check back on your Adsense revenue whenever the thought arises. You do not need to be obsessive with earnings that it takes away from your hubs, but I would hope you would rather earn from other people's work.
Thus, working smarter, not harder.

Hubpages I believe needs to do some more testing to get more clicks on adsense. To me their ctr is absolutly terrible. I believe that they need more add groups along the left side going all the way down the article. Also big box in the upper middle so first thing people see...

Have any of you found detestable ads on your hubs? It is a "game" with girls in bras...how distasteful I want it off my hub...do you know if we have a say in this? It has nothing to do with my poem and is disgusting to me.

Possibly this has been asked before. I did a search and came up with nil. Is it possible to allow users to control where the adsense blocks are placed. I'd like to be able to lace 1 or 2 in positions I feel they may be more visible and appropriate in my hubs. The ability to add a few blocks to my...

Well I finally had my first Post-Panda incident with disabled ads. I'm guessing it's because there is a picture of a girl in a (gasp!) bikini on it. I e-mailed the Team to see what is wrong for sure, so I'll wait for their reply. I cant post a link to said Hub because that would be promoting. But...

I'm curious if anyone actually makes money on their hubs. How long did it take for you to make some? Is it a good side income?
