Hi all,
So yesterday I had a really high value click on one of my hubs, so I went into Analytics to investigate. Obviously having one or two "sexy" hubs I'm used to seeing "hmmm" types of keywords (more disturbing than those "indian aunty" type of phrases).
But yesterday my high value keyword actually indicated that the user had suicidal thoughts. Obviously my hub is totally unrelated to this subject matter, but I can see that my keyword combination has rather wierdly ranked high for a suicide related phrase.
Has anyone else seen anything similar? I think Analytics is a Pandora's box at times!
That is quite bizarre. So what your saying is that someone wishing to move to the other side is a purchaser. That means an advertiser is out there and has come up with a product that sells to the suicidal.
I have heard it all now.
How weird is it that when your ready to pull the trigger or kick the chair out, your open to make a purchase.
That Brett is unreal and I am glad you posted the thread.
Imagine sitting down at the pub with your mates telling them your website is targeted for these types of ads and your making a fortune.
I personally could not do that but then again, I am a marketer, but I also need to sleep too.
My hub and the product I'm promoting has nothing whatsoever to do with suicide! But it is a really cool product and one of my best hubs to date in a niche I didn't think was that lucrative.
As you might expect, these types of keyword phrases aren't SEO'd much so it's possible to rank highly for a suicide related phrase with a completely unrelated term.
I can't say too much more as I'll give my hub away.
Well if I was about to commit suicide, I'd max out my credit card too, I'm sure.
Don't get me started on the keywords I've seen for my Japanese school girls hub!
I've got a hub entitled "I had sex what are the chances I am pregnant." It's a detailed hub but is non promotional due to ToS.
Some of the keywords are a little scary, such as:
"If i was high and drunk during sex can i be pregnant."
They probably come from related hubs and forum topics that HP inserts on our hubs. The topic titles can be so disgusting in some categories, I won't even write innocent product hubs in them any more because of the traffic I was getting. I had to police the forums and keep asking to have them put in the sand pit. It was too much bother. I finally just deleted the hubs and moved on.
Is this why the trolls persist so endlessly in certain topics, to drive traffic to their hubs, maybe they are selling manure ?
The other disturbing thing is that there are so many disturbing search terms. But if you want to make it big in Internet Marketing then you need to understand that people say one thing but do another. Knowing what people REALLY want can make you a fortune here.
So men look for sexy photos of Indian aunties and stuff. Women look for answers for all their wierd psychological issues. Men are actually just as psychologically disturbed as women, but they hide it better.
I see some very sad search terms. The saddest was "what to do when your loach is lying on its side". I think buy a new fish is the answer to that one!
I've made great money on the internet for 10 years without ever selling explicit products or talking about explicit topics or delving into psychological babble or selling medical cures.
There are a lot of people who shop online who don't want that.
Brett,
Maybe your hub and the product you were selling were just so amazing that you actually rescued this person from their suicidal thoughts. You are a miracle worker.

There are tons of hubs on keyword selection and the various tools one could use to make the process easier. But, like most things 'net - they are mostly copies of copies of copies or poorly strewn together theories by intermediate writer-marketers ..So I ask... what was truly masterful, what made...

I plan on editing my existing hubs, the ones with high traffic to get them to rank even better for terms they already rank for, but not at #1 spot. I have a premium SEM rush account using which I can see what I am ranking for and what I can improve upon. I use this on my own website with a lot of...

I had a hub that was receiving around 1,300-1,500 views per day. It was chosen as Editor's Choice. It then dropped by about 1,000 views per day. I opted out of the program, but that hub is no longer showing in Google for the keywords that brought it all the traffic before EC messed it up. How can I...

I've been on HubPages for over a year now. I have written 253 hubs (I deleted some) and just recently passed the 100,000 views mark. I think I should have more views by now considering the number of hubs and the amount of time I spend here. I know it is more about quality than quantity,...
