Watch out promoting your hubs on the forums. It's not ideal.

You can buy snakes from pet stores (not recommended because they're generally not of the best health nor are they the best at taking F/T feeders), breeders, and reptile expos. What species are you looking for, as I'm sure I know a breeder who has them.

I have seen people on TV keep snakes and I wondered is it easy....the animals I have are all easy to keep, food and water, I was just wondering something simple to start....

All snakes have the potential to bite. Even snakes known to be docile can bite, and in some cases, there are individuals of a known docile species that can be quite irritable. I've heard of ball pythons who hate handling and will rear up and strike.

Ball pythons, corn snakes, king snakes, and milk snakes, are all great options for beginners. Try locating a local breeder, or find a breeder who will ship to you. Right now, you probably won't get many willing to ship, as there is a huge issue with shipping snakes right now. Pet stores sell snakes, but watch for sick ones, as most pet stores sell snakes with parasites, shedding disorders, or feeding issues.

Snakes are different. They're a very popular pet. I've got 4, but have had up to 7 at a time. I'd have more, but space is limited. I'd love another BRB, mine is super friendly, although she is blind.

Watch out for buying from certain breeders online, as there are many that do not have good quality snakes, even if just looking for a pet. Some breeders are known to be a little scammy, some are known for poor quality and health, and some are known wholesalers, which don't produce the best.

Nice way to turn your thread from promoting your hub..

I used to have wild-caught gardeners, do they count? I've helped a good friend with her pythons and corn snakes too, I would LOVE to have some of the more exotic types as pets but my husband is deathly afraid of them, it's about the only thing in the world he's afraid of.

I'd love to have a snake, but hubby would freak on me!

BTW, be careful handling wild nonvenomous snakes. Here in the Deep South, some carry tetanus.

I've never heard of snakes carrying tetanus. I've heard of reptiles carrying salmonella though. Tetanus is new to me. But, even still, in regards to salmonella, few people actually contract it from reptiles in comparison to how many are kept as pets and how many people will catch and release in the wild.
