OK, so I am trying to figure out some ways to fan out my hubs, and I wanted to venture into forums that I don't usually frequent. I ran into a problem that I think may be a stigma attached to innocently sharing information:
How do you avoid people labeling you as a spammer? It seems that if you link to anything that relates to yourself, and post it on a forum, you may be given this *awesome* title.
I wonder... if you are just going into places and you are relatively new... and you see people posting about a subject, like dating, and you just so happen to have written something about it, and link to it, you may very well be a spammer.
Or a black hat SEO.
Comments, thoughts, screams of agony?
Personally I think we can be too hard on one another. For me a spammer is someone with no hubs who posts links to an outside blog or a marketing site. You've written hubs so I don't have a problem with you posting a link to one of them. All the forum rules say is get established first ...
One way round this is to say something like, 'I wrote a hub about this recently' and hope forum readers check your profile and find the hub.
All too often, the person providing a link which just so happens to be their own blog or webpage or affiliate link, is the brand new guy. And I'm not just talking about here, but I see it elsewhere.
The majority of the time it's hit and run spam. The person has done a search for a particular keyword phrase and found that page, so they sign up, drop their link, and 9 times out of 10 they're gone.
Now if you just happen to have signed up to a forum because you actually like it, and you do happen to find a thread asking a question and you have the answer, people will automatically think you're just like those other 9 people.
While your heart is in the right place, and your intentions wholesome, you will never change peoples perceptions. Because while I say 9 out of 10 are spammers, the experience of others until you came along could has been 10 out of 10.
My suggestion is that no matter how tempting, don't. Avoid posting links to your own pages. Get involved with the discussion by all means, but don't self promote. Think long term, don't try and reap short term rewards. By avoiding the link posting, at least for a while, you'll gain trust and respect amongst the community. Later if or when you post a link (that is entirely appropriate) and if anyone does take offence you'll find that others will stick up for you. Maybe even the moderators or admin who tend to check back on sign up dates and previous posts.
Your considered a spammer if your linking on forums without contributing to the thread.

There seems to be someone posting a Spam Link on hubs. I have reported it from my hub. I am wondering if others are getting this person on their hubs also? What this person does is "Copy" a section of Your comments and "paste" them in the comment box. The Name listed by the...

Hi,Hope this is not already answered somewhere, I did look around with no luck. If someone leaves a comment that is normal such as "interesting hub", why are they identified as a spammer over the approve/deny button? Is it OK to approve their comment if it seems perfectly fine? Thanks in...

I seem to have picked up a nasty troller. This person has been a member of HP for 2 years, but has absolutely no featured Hubs or any Hubs at all on her page. Unfortunately she seems to have picked me to, well, pick on - which means she is probably doing it to others as well. She is negative, rude,...

Hi All,When I first started I read a Hub or saw in the forum that it was frowned upon to add a self-promotional link to one of my hubs in another Hubbers comments section! For example a comment like:I like your hub on belly fat. Now see my hub on beauty with the link included in the...
