Increasing Follwers

   Hi Everyone,
   
   Whats the best way to increase the number of followers we have? Am I right in thinking that when someone follows you a link is added to your homepage?

      If you follow someone, you will get a link back to your profile page. If you want that to be more visible, I recommend leaving fan mail, which will make you "rotate" among the front row followers, readily visible to everyone.
      
      If someone follows you, they similarly will get a link from your profile back to their own.
      
      I think that becoming someone's follower and leaving fan mail can help you gain followers, as I have noticed some people following me and some of my followers at the same time.

            So you are saying that those who follow me, and who think that my followers may be good people worthwhile following, are spammers?

               Not necessarily. But when I visit the page of someone who just followed me and they've followed 30 people that day... I start to make assumptions.
               
               And sadly, I'd probably class up to a quarter of my followers as 'spam followers', either following because they think it's a social networking site or following just because they want to get more followers themselves.

               You can't control who follows you. You can refuse to approve the fan mail (I have some that, in retrospect, I should not have approved), but you don't control the rest, so yes, some of our followers are spammers.
               
               Not our fault, but still true.

      Make good relevant comments on their hubs.. Post your Hubs on other social sites.

      Just write good content hubs,answers the question,gives comments on hubs,participate in contests,ask question and communicate with peoples as you can all these will increase your followers

   Hi Summertime8,
   
   Are you looking for backlinks and money? If so followers aren't a good place to start.
   
   Interact on the site and you'll get followers as people see you around and check out your profile.
   
   The link back wouldn't be worth a lot in the end - it's to your profile page and you don't plan to earn off your profile page, right?
   
   In terms of money, followers bring none. They are just a vanity number.
   
   Write well and they will come.

   I agree with you both that spammmy followers is a problem. But what I have noticed is that some follow, say, 5 people all at once - no more - and those are myself and some of my followers. I do not consider them spammers, but connaisseurs.

      Alright. Point taken. Not ALL followers who follower several people in a row are spammers, however they can often be.

         Ive gone and found five or six people to follow all in one sitting here and there. And sometimes I do find them on other peoples pages. Like..if someone leaves an awesome comment on a hub I just read, or if I follow a new person and see who they are following and the little blurb of their profile looks interesting. Usually, after number four or so I see my hubtivity and think..oh no.."that person is going to think I am spamming them."  I figure we can guess about people's motives, and people will guess about ours, but there isn't a whole lot we can do. I am honest and genuine in my following, and if others don't know that..oh well. I try to give the benefit of the doubt to my followers, and not really worry to much about people who are following just for a link. It doesn't hurt me any and they are doing what they figure they can to get a dollar or two. I wish them luck and move on with my day. 
         
         The thing that bothers me the most, are mean spirited stalker followers. There is no reason for that.

   How are they spammers? Spammers to me are ones who leave link in comments to something they are selling , etc or leave nonsense. But just following me doesn't seem a bother at all. And I can see where some people may block out time to work on Hubpages, read through the new hubbers list and pick ones they like and follow them. I do that sometimes, because I am not in here daily.

   There a number of ways in which you can expand your follower base. Here are a few essential tips to increase your followers.
   
   i) Write quality and well researched hub on good topics.
   ii) Leave insightful comment on other people's Hub.
   iii) Be active in forum and answer other people's query, but remember to answer only those questions you are absolutely sure about. It is always better not to answer a question rather than misguiding people. I hope you understand.
   iii) Follow Hubbers whose hubs look interesting to you.

    Ideally I'd like a load of followers who would read each hub and buy stuff off it.  Is there a place where I can attract such a following?  I've had a good look around.
