I love earnestshubs, they are great, I would like to comment on his picture of a female in a very skimpy and see through bikini. Think its a bit over the top and as he is writing about australia, think it may be a little degrading to Australian women.

I think you need to get over it.  If you don't like it don't look at it.  He says nothing degrading about Australian women or any women, it's just a picture.  Seriously?!

btw, why did you post this under "Report a Problem..." thread??

As I have commented on the hub in question I also post the same comment below:

LOL, the bikini referred to by 'Salt' is nothing compared to many I have seen. No biggie, we should be proud of our bodies and it is only the crazy world we live in that seems to 'teach us' that a body shown is 'shameful' causes problems. We were born wearing nothing, so what is the problem with showing off the beauty of natures creation?

PS. The slight inference of 'nipples' shown in that same picture are actually far less visible than many photos I have seen of women in T-Shirts, thin jumpers or vest tops, so where is the problem exactly? Any woman can show this much on a cold day if she chooses not to wear a bra, which is not a crime after all!

Besides, you had to click on the slideshow to see the nipples smile

Actually, I suspect this bikini does break TOS because it's transparent - probably no one noticed because it's not obvious unless you look at the slide show.  And on the slide show, it wasn't the nipples that struck me first...

I assume you wouldn't have a problem if it wasn't transparent, as it reflects the beach image of Australia.  I do feel it's a bit "objectifying" because it cuts off her head - let's see her as a person, not a body, Earnest!

Thanks marissa. And you are correct in your summation. Laura Bingle, was in the paper today here, in a bikini and looked quite tasteful.

Wasn't your comment about this on his hub enough?

That's how we dress for work wink

OK - not really. But it's the way Australia has been promoted for ages. Lara Bingle & 'where the bloody hell are ya?' is just a recent example.  I don't think Earnest is putting us down.

no its not and laura bingle doesnt wear see thru bathers that are pornographic. Its lovely to see women happy in their bodies, yet I dont really want it to go that far.. and Im wondering if you are a  male using an female alias?

      1. Uninvited Writer profile image80
Uninvited Writerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

        Now it's pornographic?

saltposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I think it does fit that category and I was writing this for hubpages staff and rules that apply for that type of photography on this site..

It is as far away from pornography as you can get. I have a t-shirt I wear sometimes and even a bra on you can see nipples. That picture is tamer than many other swimsuits and clothing you see on the street.

I would suggest you check out some of the Indian Auntie hubs if you want to find things to report.

The proper thing would be to flag it for admin to decide whether not it is against the TOS

So it's ok that there are dozens of hubs with bikini shots of women but as soon as they're Australian it's a bit too personal? Double standard a little, don't you think?

I agree with WryLilt and UW.

I personally don't react to it at all. It's a beachy place - there's a casual mode of dress in summer that's just part of the charm.

That hub is nearly 2 years old, I'm guessing its not against any TOS. I understand you are entitled to your opinion, but I  think your comment on the hub would have been enough.

And if I had a body like that, I'm pretty sure I would be wearing that bikini!

Actually, judging by your pics I've seen to date, your body is better tongue

I'll have to agree with Misha on this one. tongue smile

But, as far as the "pic" is concerned, I've had pictures pulled for being in the same manner.

    Right you are Cags.
As well, the age of the hub is no proof that the picture is OK. The TOS changed recently, and as older hubs are moderated in the natural course of things, they get caught under the new terms.

What was once safe, may no longer be OK.

Anything that sheer, see through or provocative is deemed against TOS of Adsense. Hence, it is against HubPages TOS.

And, yes, I'll agree, it makes no difference on age of Hub. smile

A near naked man. David Beckham to be exact. Wearing almost nothing. Provocative, leaves little to the imagination. This picture is on this site. What's the difference between a shot of a scantily clad women and one of a man?

Whilst I see your pov Salt - you have a lot of pictures to work through. Can't stop at earnest's choice - and yes, you can see the nipples and it does (if I remember correctly) contravene HP's TOS. I guess its fate is down to the admin team. Flagging would have been enough.

      Hey Frog,

I don't see the picture you posted as provocative. tongue

        Shurrup ye lol smile

I do see where Salt is coming from Cags, some of us women are sensitive to looking exploited (whatever medium that may take), - even if we're not being exploited directly. For the record, I'm not one of them. But I'm not every woman, I'm just one. My sister dislikes it intensely.

But ... to broaden the view, this site is still littered with similar or worse. Me - I'd flag everyone, were I feeling objectionable. And there's a wealth of photos just like the one I used. What's the difference? And don't get me started on some of the filth that's left in comment boxes on some of these hubs I'm talking about hmm

True, I find the hubs that only show a part of a woman's body distasteful. The ones that just show a crotch or a belly button or I guess even hairy underarms (although I haven't seen one of those hubs smile )

          1. Cagsil profile image71
Cagsilposted 13 years agoin reply to this

You find a belly button distasteful UW? Just curious. hmm

Uninvited Writerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Just when parts of a body are shown, that is what I find distasteful.

Cagsilposted 13 years agoin reply to this

                Okay, but why? hmm

I can understand if the picture just focused on "nipples" or "crotch".

But, a face shot is only a part of the body? Is that distasteful also?

                1. Uninvited Writer profile image80
Uninvited Writerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I don't know, it just seems to belittle a woman...or a man I guess. Faces are different.

        2. Cagsil profile image71
Cagsilposted 13 years agoin reply to this

          Hey Frog,

I can understand, but I guess the whole thing is subjective to begin with.

I have an entire collection of Playboy Magazines, which is presently 20 years strong, however, I don't see it as distasteful, disgusting or even porn(for that fact).

Personally, it's always going to be subjective and used by others to separate people, based on an immoral perceived notion. hmm

For a girl with a surfboard Salt.... it would appear that your point of view is unbalanced and you're wiping out...
Perhaps a couple of shakes of Pepper and you'll be right eh? roll

A girl in a wetsuit with a surfboard is not a girl in a see through bikini.. with all the bits...

I see a girl in a wet suit as saying girls can do what they like. Be good sportwomen - etc .. I dont see a girl with a surfboard as someone putting it all out there, I see surfing as a sport that is free, represents freedom, requires intelligence and skill. Its girl against the elements, not girl showing it all.

girl in bikini - great, girl in .... not great. Looks cheap. Is pornography, by definition. And its not Laura Bingle in a bikini.
