I don't want to known as a 69er, I might have to change my profile pic.  Any ideas how I can rise up the rankings?

From my own experience, you have to be active here, like read others' hubs, write sincere comments, try to help newbies, answer questions, etc., don't just write your own hubs without looking around. Don't have a list, just things off top of my head. Other more experienced hubbers may give you more advice, and I look forward to learning more myself.

Try posting on one of the many male domination forums. You will fit in well and maybe up your score enough to enter other forms without  embarrassment

Can I make a quick recommendation based on a very quick look at your hubs?

Make them a little more content rich. Most of them don't even have pictures. So add one or two, maybe add a poll, a news feed, or an RSS feed.

    Hubs are about quality.

That said however, hub/authorscore has very little influence on anything other than personal pride. Once your authorscore is over 75, any outbound links will be 'dofollow', something you want if you are trying to promote your own website/s, but other than that score doesn't change traffic or earnings.

Funny, but you sound like a Brit version of Shadesbreath... Hmmm....

    Love your hubs, btw.

Glad you made this comment, Irohner. Otherwise I might have missed his writings. They are great!

    Hi Mark,
I would say that you have reached 69 pretty early at least as compared to me. You have been with Hubpages for just 8 days. It had taken me almost a month to go past 60. In my opinion you are doing fine.

You said you don't want to be known as 69er. I would say the hubs you have written so far are really god. Keep writing quality hubs like this, comment on other people's hub and be active in the forum by answering on other fellow hubbers queries. The author score will go up with time if you continue your good work. All the best.

Thanks to all for comments, both useful and funny.  Since posting this thread I am no longer a 69er, more people have visited my hub offerings, and I got some fan mail.  I now know how Justin Bieber must feel.

Of course with a slightly higher profile comes more attention - and I was surprised to see one of my Hubs got rejected as sub standard.  Surprised because I thought it would be more than that.

    I'm learning...

Thanks.  I now feel a bit of a fraud.  A few hubs, bit of self publicity, er, I mean being helpful and answering questions, one withdrawn sub standard hub - they missed the others, and I seem to have rocketed upwards.

Maybe everyone has the same experience, so I won't get too carried away.  I did write a short poem to celebrate.

      I'm eighty, I'm eighty... it's really greaty.

Before you know it ... I'll be your hubber matey.
So from a new hubber ... hi! i'm called Mark Ewbie

Thanks Frog, that's some damn fine poet stuff.  That Ewbie newbie thing - it's almost as if I made the name up!  My parents on my fathers side, ie. my father, had a sick sense of humour.  Fancy calling me Ewbie.  When their name is Brown.  They wanted me to get on in Facebook I guess...
