      Hi Pisean282311.
I am 38, and was born and raised in Australia. Until 1984, the Australian National Anthem was God Save The Queen. Then a disaster befell the country. The socialist Labour Party won power. The Anthem was changed from God Save The Queen, to Advance Australia Fair.
I was in Form 1 at the time. Every Monday morning at school, there would be an assembly. The Australian Flag would be raised, and the students would  sing God Save The Queen. Until the socialists and apologists stopped it.
The Boy Scout and Girl Guide movement's Promises where to "Do my best to do my duty to God and to The Queen..." until the socialists and apologists stopped it.
Australians fought and died in many wars for King (Queen in the Boer War) and Country.
Sadly there is a movement in Australia, headed by washed up, has been media presenters and Australian footballers to try and rid our country of our history and heritage.
These green apologist traitors want to remove the Union Jack from our flag, change our Anthem to a song about sleeping with prostitutes, and remove Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of Australia as our Head Of State.
Many Australians remain loyal to the Monarchy and Britain because our historical and cultural ties are to Britain and The Crown.
This is getting a bit long winded, but you get my point.
      God Save The Queen!

interesting...but do you believe monarchy was ideal way of governance?..i mean it may be part of how countries were led in past but now why should one be fascinated with monarch?

Personally I feel that it is a tradition that should be honoured and kept.

The majority of former British Imperial colonies that are now "independent" states or republics have kept Queen Elizabeth as Head Of State... Canada, Fiji, Tonga, South Africa, Kenya, Australia, New Zealand, and so on and on.

As I said, the Monarchy is part of the history and culture of so many peoples and nations.

People love the thought of something that has endured for over 1 200 years still existing today.

Even the Americans go stupid over the British Royals... and they fought a war to get rid of them!

I've heard a few Aussies say that respect for the present Queen means this isn't the time for change, but that they wouldn't accept a King Charles III as head of state.

So is there a movement to change your National Anthem again, or is Advance Australia Fair about sleeping with prostitutes (because if so I have missed that bit! LOL)?

I have always thought it ironic that in Australia the Queen's birthday is a national holiday, but is not here in the UK.

I would have thought that as Australia is on the other side of the world to the UK, and nowadays is far more economically and culturally tied to Asia and the US, that it would be a fairly natural step to abolish the monarchy, get rid of the Union Jack etc. Even your own prime minister, Julia Gillard, has been on TV saying that the obvious time to do it is at the end of Queen Elizabeth's reign.

I think that the ongoing fascination with monarchy, princesses etc is the same as the current obsession with celebrities.  People want to feel that there is a more glamorous, exciting and luxurious way of life out there and that some day they might stumble into it.  It is a little departure from reality - a bit of pageantry to lift our spirits

          Hi CMHypno.

Advance Australia Fair is still the National Anthem. There is a push to change it to Waltzing Matilda, which is about sleeping with prostitutes, and sung to tune of an old British military tune, The King's Fusilier.

An important thing to remember about Joolya, is that she is not our democratically elected Prime Minister.

She seized power in the June 21 coup, and then failed to win an outright majority in the August Federal (general) election.

She is only in power because the country was held to ransom to the tune of $9 billion AUD by independents and the same green, apologist traitors who want to re-write our history.

Q: What do Australia and McDonald's have in common?
A: They are both run by red headed clowns!

Hi pisean bec of history. I love monarchy and all the festivities that surround it because I like the story of king, queens etc. -- the grandeur of it. And most of all I like ceremonies, it is another world which is real than the world we are at now..

Yes, there is a large anti-Charles faction here. To be honest, though, I am not overly sure that he wants the Crown. But, if it happens, it happens.
There is speculation that if Charles does become King, he will adopt the name George VII
Remember that Elizabeth only became Queen because her uncle, Edward VIII abdicated to marry the American divorcee Wallis Simpson, thus handing the throne to George VI.
A century before that, Victoria became Queen only because her uncle, William IV died childless.
If the line of succession had run truly, who knows who would be our reigning Monarch!
Of course, we also boast our own Australian royalty - HRH Princess Mary of Denmark. A nice double connection for me, as I have both British and Danish ancestry.

Most national anthems have pretty dubious words. And sleeping with prostitutes is still preferable to 'crushing' rebellious Scots, which the British national anthem advocates.

        Verse 2:

        Lord, grant that Marshal Wade
        May by thy mighty aid
        Victory bring.
May he sedition hush and like a torrent rush,
        Rebellious Scots to crush.
        God save the King.

But if you think that's bad, try Le Marseillaise.
Nationalism has its ugly side, everywhere.

If we had to change the Australian Anthem, I would vote for pinching God Defend New Zealand. Why not? We already claim the Finns, Russell Crow, Benji Marshall, Lotte Tuqiri...

God of nations at thy feet
In the bonds of love we meet.
          Hear our voices, we entreat,
          God defend our free land.
          Guard Pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
          Make her praises heard afar,
          God defend New Zealand.

          E Ihoa Atua,
          O nga Iwi! Matoura,
          Ata whakarongona;
          Me aroha roa.
          Kia hua ko te pai;
          Kia tau to atawhai;
          Manaakitia mai
          Aotearoa.

Men of every creed and race
          Gather here before thy face,
Asking thee to bless this place,
          God defend our free land.
          From dissension, envy, hate,
          And corruption guard our state,
Make our country good and great,
          God defend New Zealand.

Well it was written in 1745 when the Jacobites were attempting an invasion, and really only the first verse ever gets sung.

But even only singing the first verse, while it is nice that we all hope that the Queen gets saved and is glorious etc, what happened to the rest of the country and the population?

It would be nice to have a bit more of an inclusive National Anthem, but I doubt that it would ever happen - can you imagine the howls of outrage!

At ANZAC Day Services here in Australia, the first two verses of God Save The Queen are sung. Of the three verses of Advance Australia Fair, only the first is sung.
Over 75% of Australians do not know the words to the first verse, never the mind the fact that there are three!

I know what God Save the Queen sounds like but I don't know a whole verse and I think at some point it gets mashed up in my head with one the American patriotic songs. I think it's the 'sea to shining sea' one.

Can get through two verses of Advance Australia Fair.

The American song to the tune of God Save The Queen is America, My Country Tis Of Thee.

The lyrics you mention are from America, The Beautiful.

Well, I certainly don't know the words to the second verse of 'God Save the Queen' and I'm sure that most of us Brits only know the words to the first verse because it it so short and pretty repetitive!

Unless you go to international sporting events and suchlike, you really don't get to sing it too often.

The UK royal family are retained for their services to the robber barons who took control of England through the Magna Carta and then teh robber barons were slowly replaced by the thieving corporations.  The function is to keep us looking UP at authority, we live in houses like little castles with our teeny patch of 'land' around it and our little garden fence battlements to keep out hte enemy - we are told that we should eat 'proper' like wot the Queen does and so wield knives and forks in succession around our bangers and mash.  Like the institution of religion they should be discontinued and exhibited in the museum of oppressive b@st@rds.

I understand why the British are attached to their monarchy - it's such a huge feature of their history and actually, it's central to a huge chunk of the history of Western Civilisation.

I'm not sure how many genuine monarchists there are in Australia. There would be some, but there would also be a lot who aren't bothered either way and many who are pushing for a republic. A lot are just interested in the celebrity angle.

People used to be interested in the Queen when she was a younger woman and collected paraphernalia at the time of her coronation (commemorative spoons etc) and I think Queen Victoria was genuinely respected here. These days, the connection seems a bit tenuous.
