With the election of Rahm Emanuel to mayor in Chicago and Hillary Clinton not too long ago is it becomming more commonplace for the parties to dictate the election rather than leave it up to the local electorate while the electorate follow like cattle?
Indeed. Name recognition and money collected seems to be what the electorate follows more than the stance on the issues or content of character.
I agree. Sometimes I feel like I am the only rat in a sea of lemmings.
Your comments are particularly true for the Democrat Party. In days of old a Candidate was selected by all the Members of the Caucus and THEN the platform was built by the Caucus. Today, the ruling elite within the party dictates both.
I'm not sure I completely understand your question. Hillary Clinton is Secretary of State and was appointed to that position by PresidentObama. Rahm Emmanuel was elected with 55 percent of the vote, and as far as everything I've read, the election was fair.
I don't think there's anything we can do to stop name recognition giving candidates a boost, though.
I agree with CJ Wright on unlimited campaign money being bad. It's bad for democracy and bad for America.
The question is how did Rahm Emanuel qualify as a resident so that he could run? The elections board originally stated he did not qualify because of the 1-1/2 years he spent in Washington working for Obama. This situation miraculously changed because why? The situation with Hillary was even more ludicrous as prior to her election she was never a resident of New York.
I am not trying to split hairs with this but I thought the system we operate under is supposed to be representative and would require that you had at least some relationship with the electorate and thereby an understanding of your constituency before you could adequately represent them.
Instead you had a party bulldoze a candidate through for thier own means and to hell with the electorate.
A lot of us haven't agreed to it.
But somehow they get their way anyway.

NEVER HAS THERE BEEN SO LITTLE DIVERSITY WITHIN AMERICA'S UPPER CRUST. Always, in America as elsewhere, some people have been wealthier and more powerful than others. Here once again Biden stands at a podium swings around his hands, and rants, seeking and appoint blame on American citizens, ultimately Republican citizens. Without cause, without proof of the motive of why or what possessed this nut job that attacked Paul Pelosi. Although in front of only a...
