Vegas in the summer...

   Is going to Las Vegas during the summer a bad idea? Is it uncomfortably hot? My boyfriend and I have a week off in June and are planning our vacation.

      well going to vegas is ok cause they splash fresh air in the casinos year round, I wouldn't neccessarily advise going to the Grand Canyon in mid-summer...just drinks lots of water. have a great vacation.  Lynne

      Better try Vegas in the winter because summer you can expect temperatures in the 115 F up to 120 F. That is too hot.

      It will be scorching, but one really does not make it out during the day if they do Vegas the right way. Consider not taking your boyfriend either. You want to be able to enjoy yourself.

         I have never been there.....I have always wanted to go. But I am afraid I will get into lots of trouble since it is SIN CITY...LOL

         And taking my boyfriend I wouldn't enjoy myself?? Gambling buddy, drinking buddy, dancing, going out to a nice romantic dinner, sharing a first time experience with the guy I love, staying up allllll night in Sin City Yeah, you're right... doesn't sound like any fun at all
         
         What kinda guy do you think I'm dating?
         I wouldn't date someone I couldn't have fun in Vegas with...

   The last time I was in Vegas was two years ago in early June.  We landed at the airport at 10:30pm and it was 108 degrees outside.
   
   The good news is that you really don't have to go outside that much...

   I think June is just fine to go.
   
   Went two years ago toward the end of July. It's very hot, but like bill said you'll want to be inside most the time. We stayed at the Villa Roma Motel (Now called Rodeway Inn hotel) It's near the Riviera and Circus Circus end of the strip.
   
   We did a lot of walking but also took the shuttle down to the other end daily because my sister was staying at the Excalibur and we preferred the hotels towards that end.
   
   In the mornings and very late evenings it's easy to get on the shuttle. During the day they are sometimes full and you have to wait for the next one.
   
   There were times during the day that it just was too hot. There is a dolphin habitat(with really small zoo) at The Mirage that is really neat but I remember wanting to spend more time in the gift shop then out watching the dolphins.
   
   Most the tourist type stuff on the outside of the hotels don't start till night and once it goes dark, it actually feels really good to be outside.

   I love Vegas as a holiday destination. I have not been back for some years now, as it is a long way from Australia. I found it to be cheap with good food and great inexpensive hotels. The heat is a bit much in the day time in summer, a bit like our Darwin only a dryer heat as Lita said.The air conditioning is usually good in almost all the casinos and the whole place is a buzz. I would highly recommend it for a couple. I took my spouse and she had a great time.It is great to walk around on warm nights.

      UPDATE: Fyi, there is a big "ongoing" construction (City Center) a few feet away from Monte Carlo. I included the link here. Not sure if it is going to be noisy in the hotel you'll gonna stay in next month because of that.

   I lived in Vegas for two years altogether.  115 degrees is average for a day in June, but it's a dry heat - comparable to 90 where the humidity is higher.  But because it's dry, be sure to take something cold to drink if you plan to be outside for 30 minutes or more. My guess being since it's your first visit, you'll only be outside between casinos and tourist attractions. :} 
   
   Spend as little as possible on a hotel room. Think of it as the place your luggage will live for the duration. Vegas *never* closes - you won't be in the room much except to shower and change clothes.  You can sleep on the plane going home!

   Monte Carlo is a nice hotel and you won't need a ride to go to the Strip since it is situated on the south side of the Strip. Here in Las Vegas the month of June is hot, but it is much better than August. August is considered the peak of summer here, usually we have a heat wave that lasts for 2 weeks. The good thing is, if you aren't working outside, heat is not a problem.

    The upscale resorts & hotels are hurting, especially in Vegas--due to the economy (I should know--I work in marketing for one in AZ.)  The deal you are getting is completely for real.

    I don't know, I kind of like it when it's hotter there.. but like JamaGenee said, it's a dry heat, so it might not bother you. You tend to not get that sweaty since it's so dry outside. You'll most likely be exploring the casinos plenty, and there are causeways and connecting bridges to and fro, so you can duck in and out of air conditioning easily. If you're headed out into the desert to go sightseeing (Death Valley, Hoover Dam), it's probably the worst time to go, but in the city you'll have the safety net of the resort. Have fun!

    Depends on what you plan on doing, if you want to sightsee outside the casinos, probably not.
    
    If you're there to party, then maybe. Sleep during the day, go out at night.
    
    Hotels and air are cheaper than too.

    UPDATE: The boy decided he would rather go tropical for our vacation. So we're going on a cruise. Still planning a trip to Vegas in the near future, thanks so much for the information everyone! I will keep all of that in mind.
