Help-Getting error with Microsoft Excel calculation

   I am getting an error with Microsoft excel calculation. I am using Microsoft Excel 2003 and when calculating with a formula I am getting #VALUE!. The formula is put as =C2*.25*B2*.4*.05. Please help me solve this problem.

      What are the values of c2 and b2? If there is a 'blank' in one of them you possibly will get this error - replace a blank with zero.
      
      I note that this formula works for me when i place a value in both cells; the only way I replicate the error is by entering text into one of the cells.

   No none of the columns are empty. C2 is currency and B2 is a number.

      It works for me on Excel 2007 - I note the Excel auto changed the formula to:
      
      =C2*0.25*B2*0.4*0.05
      
      perhaps Excel 2003 doesn't add the extra zero and this is causing the problem?

   I think what Simey's trying to say is that it's probably not recognizing one of the cells as numerical. Go into both C2 and B2 and use the format, number stuff (can't remember where it is in 2003) to format them.

      *light bulb* - the currency amount - did you enter a '$' or whatever symbol in front of the numbers? That would change it to text - to view as currency you should format as currency and not enter the symbol!

   Yes it has a currency sign before the amount or numbers though it is not in dollars.

      If you typed the currency sign directly in to the cell then remove the currency sign and use the 'number formatting' to format as the currency...hmmm I just typed in the $ before numbers and that works too....check to see if there is the character  '  before the currency sign....

   There was a dot between the currency sign and the number removed it but no use.

   No no its not confidential. Its a keyword research excel sheet. And the currency values are in Rs which is the symbol for Indian rupees. I can send it but you have Excel 2007 not sure if the excel sheet will open properly in your computer.

      I believe all Office products are backwards compatible. In other words you can open a document in Office 2007 that was written in 2003, but not the other way round.

               Just sent the file back to you:
               -I used edit replace to remove the 'rs.'
               -I saved as an excel file rather than the comma delimited file.
               -I added the formula - only the values remained in the file you sent me

   you can try to use parenthesis or brackets and at the same time make sure you are giving the correct cell references
