I realise the statement implies the sources cannot be identified but i'm just wondering if anyone has any sense of the type of traffic sources that tend to fall into the category 'not all views have a discernable source' within the hub stats.Seems to be accounting for more views lately.
Hi Rob,
I don't think we're talking special sources here, I'm guessing the traffic you're talking about it regular traffic from people who have chosen to turn referrer passing off in their browsers settings.
Tunnelware and proxy servers can also generate referraless traffic.
I just hate when I get multiple views from somewhere that hasn't been identified, yet that is silly really because what is Google.com or Google.whatever? Strangers, no idea who they are, so it shouldn't matter if their method of accessing my hub isn't identified.
It shouldn't matter, but it does.....
paranoia is alive and well
I hear you Izzy .I do partially like to know out of sheer curiosity as well being able to best judge any traffic generation efforts i'm engaged in or to sometimes identify ones i should perhaps be focusing on.
Rob makes a great point. My unidentified visits have grown recently and I usually like to know the sources as a way of doing some targeted feeds. Perhaps there may be a way of knowing where this traffic comes from, although at this point I am not aware of any.
Thanks Luis - While i'm still relatively new on here and have only a few hubs and therefore am only dealing with relatively small no.s of views to be analysing there has been a noticable increase in the 'unidentified views' and whilst it is a minority % of overall views it is a significant %. Had i hundreds of hubs like you guys i could be talking hundreds of views per day falling into this category!

When you click on "View Stats" for a hub, you'll see the message "Top Traffic Sources - (not all views have a discernable source)"Why exactly is this? Don't most analytics programs show the source? Also, why doesn't it ever show direct traffic (like people just...

Where does my traffic come from?I joined Hubpages about a week ago and have had 69 views. However, my traffic source tells me that only 47 come from Hubpages and does not give any source for the others. Are they from search engines? I'm not sure as I would expect it to list Google or...

I haven't paid a lot of attention to Analytics on HubPages because I'm just too new here - not enough page views and not enough elapsed time. I do use Analytics extensively at my much older and much higher traffic main site.My attention was attracted to a burst of activity in the last week at...

I had to look twice at my stats today-I usually have around 60 to70 views/day-which is reasonable for my topics-because in the last 24 hours I've had 322! I am used to seeing lots of zeros next to my hubs, but it seems like they're all popular.Maybe I'm paranoid, but this creeps me out...Any...

Traffic has fallen to maybe 20% of what it was. Now I have loads of articles with zero daily views. Am I going to be penalised by HP and have them shifted to Discover, not because it's my fault, but because the sites are badly rated by Google now?

I'm guessing it's because school started this week, but today my page views have taken a drastic drop. They have been cut by more than half...is this happening to anybody else?
