   I came across this website and thought I should share it with everyone here in the forum. When people ask me "what's the harm" regarding faith beliefs, this is usually one of the things I point out. Faith healing is dangerous.

   That's another thing; why is believing something without evidence somehow a character trait to be admired? I get tired of hearing people saying things like "I wish I had as much faith as him" or "He was a man of faith." I wish more people respected and admired people for being critical thinkers and for NOT taking things at face value. To me, someone who thinks critically and is not afraid to question the prevailing notions is someone to be admired.

   I could walk down any street in london, stop a few people at random and give you a list of people who have been into hospital for treatment for one illness and come out with something else that they caught in hospital.
   
   Modern medicine is not all its cracked up to be, and neither is faith healing. both should be taken with a healthy pinch of salt.
   (as long as you havn't exceeded your recommended daily allowance , of course).

   This reminds me of that movie, The ballad of Ricky Bobby, where Will Ferrell has an accident during a Nascar race and thinks that his on fire, and begins running around all over the place, all the while screaming, "save me, jesus...Save me Tom Cruise, use your witchcraft and heal me." i've always wondered what Tom Cruise would feel about that, being a Scientologist and all. But Will Ferell cracks me up, though.

      No. Scientology is a business venture founded by L Ron Hubbard in the 20th century. The Church of Christ, Scientist (aka Christian Science) is a lot older.

         Oh right, I see Christian Science was started by Mary Baker Eddy in 1866.
         
         See one of the commenters on the video that Mark posted about Scientology says this "Funny, L.Ron Hubbard was a friend of Aleister Crowley, and both started a religion. Crowley started Thelema, which evolved into Wicca(with some Theosophy). L. Ron started Scientology."

   Oh yes. The Catholic church has been bringing pressure to bear to get rid of all "cults" in France My definition of a cult is usually a religion with no money, but I think the scientologists are well funded.
   
   This is a private case though ?

      In my country there is a scientologist millionaire who got his money by virtually killing people. He had a nutriment product that contained so high dozes of certain elements that people got sick beyond cure. He had a shop even in my town which is a small one. And then one day it closed and he was in the news.

      I believe so - I have only seen one news report, but it seems that there is a little more to it than a simple fraud case- the state is now involved. It seems like there are a lot of people out to get them - Maybe the Catholics are funding it?
      
      The Greeks are out to get them, too. I will try to find something in English about that.

         Yes, that is a private one. I have no idea if the Catholics are funding it, but they have been aggressively trying to get the French government to ban "sects" and introduce more legislation to prevent "faith healers"
         
         Got to say - the last thing we need is more friggin' legislation - I can barely understand the system at the moment as it is. I am still fighting over my 2006 taxes.

            I found out that they are officially banned in Greece - the Greek Orthodox church was largely behind it. Not a big fan of the church getting involved in politics, but I find it hard to shed a tear - I hate Pseudo-Scientology
            
            Sounds like the French legal system is as tortuous as the Greek - Good luck with the taxes - they are probably waiting for the hyperinflation to strike before they pay you back. You might have enough left for a loaf of bread.
