It's annoying that we have to have sock puppets in the forums.  They are no better than spam.  Why not have a probationary period of maybe a week before new members can start a thread in the forums?

And how is this actually going to reduce their activity?

Because they can't participate until their probation period is over?  Not sure how much more straightforward I could explain it?

And again I ask, but how is that really going to stop their activity?

A troll could create multiple personas all at once, and after a weeks time, they'd all be active, thus allowing that person to change accounts just as quickly as ever.  If they don't mind making new accounts under the current system, a time delay isn't actually going to stop anything...

Ah, someone else copied my idea before I'd even thought of it!  ;-)

It's a regular suggestion. HP regularly ignores it.

Obviously they feel that annoying trolls create value.

It's been discussed many times and a probationary period may help but also have a few hubs under their belt may make them think twice before starting any trouble. and putting their income in jeopardy..wink

I think active moderation and banning by IP address would be a hundred times better than gagging new members.
