This is really kind of minor, but I think it would be great if we could also add sound files much like the the ability to add video including YouTube.

One solution, in the mean time, is to use sound cloud and place a link in the hub. That is until the audio thing is sorted out here. Some people make a sort of video with photos and the sound, upload it to YouTube then place it here or you can sign up for the video beta program here on HP.

Search engines actually penalize pages that launch music or auto-play sound when visited, as that's one of the top complaints by web visitors/users.

I hope HubPages does not add this feature.

Fascinating. There are many major websites with audio players for their programs, but the sound does not play automatically. The viewer must push the play button.

It is not my intention that Hubpage include a player that launches by itself. But there have been a number of articles I've written where including sounds was not an option unless it was part of a video. This is overkill.

A video or audio clip should ALWAYS be played at the viewer's discretion. And though I appreciate that hubpages is adding it's own video upload feature, I do not like that the few hubs it appears in the videos play automatically. This should always be a choice.

I also have to question why any site would be penalized for including features.

I'm in total agreement. Especially when we click the page and either are on the phone or otherwise occupied, perhaps even listening to something on another page.

This happened today for me, even though I had already listened to the entire video play, each time I click to return, it does not need to auto play again. Maybe someone can explain why it is set up to do this.

P.S. Please teach me about how we can use the HP Video Upload Player. It has a nice wide-screen presentation.
Can we also record directly to the player?

I would love an audio player here on Hubpages.

I may be imagining things, but I think I remember long ago reading that in its early days, HubPages did allow sound files and eventually did away with them.  [However, I see that you LiamBean have been here four years, so I would assume that you would know whether that is true.]

I would guess that if I am correct, the staff would have some experience on which to base their decision.

At the same time, I am in favor of the option of adding sound files that the user can start at their own discretion.  I believe they could add a great deal to many different kinds of Hubs.

I believe Hubpages is roughly five years old, so I wasn't around in the very early days. There could have been a sound player that I'm not aware of.

One of my chief complaints with other sites is the use of Vimeo. This player is often set up to play automatically and at top volume which I find particularly annoying.
