               What's the difference between Sharia law and the culturally based laws we observe?
               
               Americans have all sorts of restrictions on behavior.  You can see that rather pointedly be googling for "banned TV commercials" - these are things that can't be broadcast in prudish America. 
               
               American women can't even breast feed their children without causing controversy.  Radio and TV shows can't use certain words - it's all cultural.
               
               Some Muslim countries cover women's faces, we cover breasts.  The reason is the same in both cases and neither can be rationally defended.

                  What is the differenced between Sharia law and the culturally laws we observe?    How long have you had your head in the sand?  Under Sharia law if a woman is raped, she can be put to death.  Nothing will happen to the man.  Sharia law is alreading starting to be put in place in the U.S.

                     Can you rationally defend that?  If so tell me the reason.  If a woman is raped why should she be put to death, while nothing can happen to the man.  Tell me why that is ok,  please tell me now.

                        Of course their culture is wrong by our standards.  I'm not going to defend theirs or ours:  we are all disgustingly irrational.

                           Please tell me what is worse  being in prison/ or killed sometimes even by your family for being raped, or going to jail for a short time even just put on probation and going to AA meeting ( my husband runs a treatment center, he goes to the judge to help the people who grow or use the herbs.)
                           Sometimes a woman is even mutilated by her family, but gets no pain killers.  So, which is more horrible?

                              It's not "horrible" to those who have a culture that thinks this is appropriate.
                              
                              It never fails to astound me how blind people can be to their own cultural prejudice.
                              
                              I understand that it angers you.  It angers me also.  But it IS their culture. You can call it ignorant, cruel, stone-age or whatever but the same things can be said about things our culture prohibits.
                              
                              So, fine, they are savages.  We agree.  But our house also has plenty of glass to throw stones at.
