I have been thinking about a way to keep our work from being stolen from off of Hubpages, but I am not sure if this is possible or not.

In the last month or 2 I have had a person copy my work on to another website. The person did not ask for permission, and they did not even give me credit for my work that was stolen.

For all the Technical people on Hubpages, I wonder if there is a way to disable the right click, copy stroke from all users?  I do know that I was a member of an art site that had this ability, but I am not sure if it is available for TEXT based formats.

This would definitively keep the people who steal our content at bay.

You should have done a search of the forums first.  This question has been raised over and over again.

Short answer:  no point.  If the web page can be read, it can be copied.  Period.  It would not help.

@Pcunix, But wouldn't this type of feature discourage some of the bad behaviors of those who steal our work?  They would have to type out each individual word, instead of pressing a copy key.  Thoughts?  Just curious on this.smile

Look for the other forum entries - full duscussion.

BTW you can read any text directly into Word, iPad etc - so it would not take long to copy an article word for word. You can also edit the source and copy the text - there are also more technical hacks....

@SimeyC Wow, can you provide me with link to some of the other forum posts?  I never thought about this from that angle. Those who who want to steal our work I believe could figure out these type of hacks rather quickly.

@SimeyC @Pcunix It does look like I am beating a dead dog on this one!  I just did  search on this and gained even more insight into the feature that I suggested. Hum, I wonder what could be the answer for those who make these type of violations? Is there anything technically at the moment? I am sure as the Internet matures these types of software will come into existence.

There are quicker ways to copy the hub than reading into a speech to text editor or typing work for word. All you have to do is save the webpage then open with XML, PDF or Word. In less than 2 minutes you have copied the entire page with just a few clicks.
